Eucharist means "good gift, good grace". That to remember well the sacrifice of Jesus is to truly experience something in our lives. The Second Century Church Fathers taught that a mystery transpires when we "eat the bread and drink the cup" in remembrance. And that two elements rise to the top: Vertical, and Horizontal. The impact is the reminder that God loves us. That He has "no strings attached to His love for us." And, that we are "all in this together". We belong to each other. We have all been "adopted" (Romans 8:15, 16). This partaking of the Eucharist is a humbling experience. Its intention is to bring us to a place of thankfulness. And a deeper awareness that we all belong to each other. We are family. Even though we are very different.

Jesus wants us to practice what is good, "not letting our left hand know what our right hand is doing". That we must stop living our "Christian lives" with a great need to be recognized by others. Because our recognition comes from God. And HE sees and knows all things. That we need to affirm each other. But not live with an unhealthy need for being continually fawned over. Public prayer is about God...not making an impression on others that we are "spiritual and impressive."
